Mactaggart Pastoral Case Study
Decision-making has never been easier for Mactaggart Pastoral, despite the massive amount of data they use to guide their next management actions.
Through the use of Black Box Co, the Central Queensland beef producer has been able to move away from collating data within spreadsheets and simplify the information they use to “make some pretty big decisions”.
Mactaggart Pastoral’s Wirranda Aggregation Manager, James Hegarty, said the analysis and insights software had brought “a lot of value” to the business, including making his job much easier.
“To run an efficient business nowadays, I think you need to be collecting as much data as you can and making sure that data is accurate and keeping it all together in one place and really using that data to make decisions within your business,” he said.
“To find a tool that enabled us to do that easily was the key to really using Black Box.”
Beyond the decision-making insights, the appeal of Black Box was the ability to give all employees access to the information within the system.
“Our staff are all trained on how to use the program as well, and…they’ve got full access to it,” James said.
“It’s good feedback for them as well, because it really helps them to understand the whole business model and why we’re doing what we do.”
Priding themselves on having good relationships with their supply chains, James said the ability to integrate feedback data from feedlots and abattoirs is integral to continuing those relationships.
“That information is really important to us to make sure that we're actually getting our management right here and it's flowing through to the feedlots as well,” he said.
“The more data we collect, the better for our business.”
