Black Box Co Hits Darwin for NTCA Conference

Black Box Co Client Managers Meg, Lucy, and Elsie recently traveled from Central Queensland to attend the NTCA Conference in Darwin, joining hundreds of industry leaders and producers from across the country.

The conference began with the highly anticipated NTCA and CDU Ladies Lunch at the Darwin Turf Club on Wednesday morning. Hundreds of attendees, elegantly dressed in their finest frocks, gathered to hear a series of speakers discussing the important theme of women’s health. The energy continued throughout the week, with the Crocs and Frocks networking event setting a lively and engaging tone for the days ahead.

Event Highlights

Beatrice Hill Farm Field Trip

Genomics Manager Elsie Vincent represented Black Box Co at the Beatrice Hill Farm Field Trip. Elsie delivered an insightful presentation on the significance of genomic testing in northern Australia, demonstrating how a simple DNA test can provide valuable insights into northern beef herds.

Producers also had the opportunity to learn about the latest NT DAF research, including advancements in buffalo fly management, GPS tracking collars for monitoring animal behaviour, and strategies to reduce calf loss in the north.

Data-Driven Decision Making

After the field trip, attendees returned to the convention centre for the Nutrien Ag Tech and Tea talks, where the role of technology in promoting economic and social growth was explored. The discussions highlighted the importance of data-driven decision-making and strategies for advancing sustainability in the industry. It was particularly exciting to see growing interest in utilising platforms like Black Box Co to enhance on-farm data collection and boost profitability.

Black Box Co client Ross Stanes from Lyndavale Station served as a panellist during the Data-Driven Decision Making session. He shared his perspective on the importance of integrating processes, people, and platforms to streamline data collection, stating, "Data collection isn’t costly, it’s timely." This insight underscored the value of efficient data management and the potential for time savings and improved accuracy.

Key topics discussed during the panel included mortality rates, fertility trends, and the power of utilising abattoir feedback. A key takeaway from the session was the importance of measuring key metrics—reinforcing the adage, "If you don’t measure it, you can’t manage it."

Networking Opportunities

In addition to the valuable information shared during the sessions, the conference provided ample opportunities for networking. Events like the Pioneer Water Tank Welcome Drinks and the NTCA and AACo Gala Ball allowed attendees to make new connections, as well as strengthen existing relationships, in a relaxed and social environment.

Looking Ahead

The NTCA Conference was not just an educational experience—it was a unique opportunity for growth, collaboration, and lasting connections. Thank you to all who attended, spoke, exhibited, and networked with us. Your involvement made this event truly special. We look forward to continuing the conversations and collaborations that began in Darwin and are excited to see what the future holds.
